Coherent Optical Multiple-Input Multiple-Output communication

چکیده
We propose and demonstrate the Coherent Optical Multiple-InputMultiple-Output (COMIMO) communication technique. In analogy to the spatial diversity in wireless communication, the concept exploits the modal diversity, inherent in a multi-mode fiber (MMF), to transmit independent data channels through a single fiber without the need for wavelength division multiplexing. Central to the MIMO concept is the requirement for sufficient modal diversity in the fiber. The coherent-optics implementation is the key as it ensures that the diversity requirement is met for practically any fiber length and at any data rate. A 2x2 proof-of-concept COMIMO system is experimentally demonstrated.

Coherent Optical MIMO
In this paper we present a Coherent Optical Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (COMIMO) communication system and its ability to exploit the inherent information capacity of Multi-Mode Fiber (MMF). COMIMO technique is a promising approach to unlock the information capacity of MMF as it ensures the necessary diversity for practically any fiber length. When exceeding the bandwidth-length product of th...
متن کاملTheoretical and experimental study on PMD-supported transmission using polarization diversity in coherent optical OFDM systems.
In this paper, we conduct theoretical and experimental study on the PMD-supported transmission with coherent optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CO-OFDM). We first present the model for the optical fiber communication channel in the presence of the polarization effects. It shows that the optical fiber channel model can be treated as a special kind of multiple-input multiple-outp...
متن کاملPerformance of Target Detection in Phased-MIMO Radars
In this paper, the problem of target detection in phased-MIMO radars is considered and target detection performance of phased-MIMO radars is compared with MIMO and phased-array radars. Phased-MIMO radars combine advantages of the MIMO and phased-array radars. In these radars, the transmit array will be partitioned into a number of subarrays that are allowed to overlap and each subarray transmit...
متن کاملA Multiband Multiple-input Multiple-output Antenna System for Long Term Evolution and Wireless Local Area Networks Handsets
A novel multiband multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is proposed. The MIMO antenna system consists of two antenna elements, each of which comprises of three radiators: a driven monopole, an S-shaped strip and an inverted F-shaped strip and occupies footprint of 15x18.5x0.8 mm3 only. The driven monopole acts as a quarter-wave monopole and stimulate higher mode resonance. The tw...
متن کاملInvestigation of optical wireless systems for indoor broadband networks
Today’s home area networks (HANs) are designed to satisfy the expectations of subscribers for access in bandwidth hungry services, such as High Definition TV Video, Telepresence, 3D Gaming, Virtual Reality and e-Health. To this direction the use of wireless optical systems is examined. A simulation model was developed in MATLAB to compute the impulse response of the optical wireless channel and...
